Last week was an exciting one!
I started the week by buying and gathering all my baking supplies. I needed to be ready to feed everyone with purple for epilepsy awareness day. It’s something I’ve done every year since I’ve discovered there was such a day. This year I decided on brownies topped with purple chocolate. They were gone by the end of the day. I’m guessing this meant success!
The company I work for hosted a ”Dress Your Purple Best” competition for Purple Day. Those with the best outfits got free lunch. As the honoree, I got a tasty meal from La Madeleine. My work family is wonderful! I love my job and I’m very happy to be there.
By the end of the day, I was blinded by purple. Everyone I knew was wearing it and sending me their best selfie to show their support. Purple day was more than I could have asked for.
After Purple Day was over, it was time to take off the purple and put on some red. Game of Thrones fans and beer lovers gathered for the launch event of the new Fire and Blood ale, inspired by the HBO drama. I have yet to finish season one, but my siblings and husband are true fans. They supported me on Purple Day so I returned the favor. I can’t consider myself a fan, but my time there was a blast.
My week concluded with my nieces. They participate in Marathon Kids, a program where they attend several race/walk events throughout the year. My oldest niece is six and her energy is beyond amazing.
“They are taking long to call us. The sun is bright and I’m getting more and more energy, “ she said. When our turn came up, a big smile formed across her face. She stretched her arms and legs and looked like a baby bull ready for a run. With her little hand holding mine, we ran as fast as we could. The distance was only a quarter of a mile, but it is more than a quarter of anything I’ve done in a long time. I did it though!
I spent some quality time with my husband on the weekend. It was nice to actually sleep in. We went out for some bubble tea and remembered our wonderful times in Austin. Then we went home and found my wedding dress by our door. We sent it out for cleaning and after what seemed like forever, we got it back! Eating dinner and thinking about our wedding was a perfect conclusion to our day.
If you ask me what last week was like, I can say it was simply beautiful. Filled with family, friends, educating and supporting one another to help overcome our difficulties while remembering the good times of now and then is wonderful. The beauty in that is what I reflect on.
I didn’t think I could do it, but I kept it at exactly 500 words.
